Heavy Equipment Technician - Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic

SUMMARY
We are hiring a skilled technician, adept at performing a full range of equipment repairs on light construction equipment. This role reports to the Regional Manager, and is responsible for repairs and maintenance on all equipment at an assigned group of stores in the region. The technician is tasked with ensuring that all equipment is either rental-ready, or is being addressed in order to return it to rental-ready status. May also perform preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, aerial equipment inspections, and delivery of equipment to customers or store locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for maintaining a fleet of rental equipment at an assigned set of store locations.
• Performs all types of repairs and maintenance on THD Rental equipment fleet.
• Addresses all components of the machine, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems.
• Diagnoses problems with equipment to determine needed repairs, and performs repairs in order to return equipment to rental ready status.
• Accomplishes the more challenging diagnostic and repair work for the field technician team.
• Makes daily review of Down Equipment Report and communicates with Regional Manager to prioritize repairs and service calls.
• Provides leadership within the area
• Procures parts needed for repairs in order to facilitate prompt repair of equipment.
• Maintains accurate parts inventory in vehicle or shop location.
• Communicates with other technicians, store associates, and customers in order to fully understand the mechanical problems being reported.
• Performs testing of equipment to validate that issues have been corrected.
• Utilizes company technology platform to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts.
• Inspects equipment for proper security, ensuring that all trailer and equipment locks are in place.
• Trains Field and Rental Center associates in the proper operation of the equipment and large equipment operating procedures.
• Interfaces with Home Depot managers (Tool Rental, Pro Desk, Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, etc.) to explain the large equipment program and address specific concerns.
• Assists with equipment deliveries and pick-ups as required.
• Deploys new equipment to store locations, including performing PDIs, delivering to the store, and training store associates on operation of the equipment.
• Performs work at store locations, company shop locations, and job sites.
• Will be required to be on call with rotating schedule including nights and weekends.
• Performs other duties assigned by the Regional Rental Manager or authorized personnel.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Required
• High School Diploma, GED, Technical or Trade School - or equivalent experience
• Trade certification as a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician
• 5+ years’ experience servicing construction equipment
• Ability to diagnose and complete advanced mechanical repairs, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Ability to troubleshoot and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment
• Ability to read and understand technical repair and parts manuals for equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other components
• Familiarity with construction field environment (landscape, home building, remodeling, etc.)
• Light construction equipment maintenance knowledge and/or skills including small engines and hydraulics
• Ability to conduct preventive maintenance on equipment
• Valid driver’s license
• Safe driving record
• Ability to drive in a MOT capacity
• Familiarity with inventory management
• Working knowledge of handheld technology (smartphone, laptop, tablet)
• Ability to work effectively with different personality types and all levels of associates
• Ability to operate in extreme outdoor working conditions
• Strong work ethic
