Job Description

Position Overview:
This position will be part of the Distribution Centre and Transportation team which has responsibility for the processing of inbound and outbound shipments across the country. The Yard Controller will report to the Assistant Manager, Yard Operations and work closely with both our Transportation team and our Distribution team to ensure product flows efficiently in and out of the Distribution Centre, off-site yards and the main yard.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage internal and external pool of trailers in the yard using Zebra Yard Management System to ensure the yard operates at full efficiency
• Manage third party on-site shunting service (shunter start/end times, lunches)
• Administer Dangerous Goods Placards (application and removal after receiving information from dispatch emails or shunters)
• Daily reports and problem solving: Yard checks, Not Assigned Trailers rectification, and trailer summary per carrier.

Physical Requirements:
• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items
• Able to move and / or lift up to 50 pounds

Working Conditions:
• Working a set schedule (including morning, afternoon, evening, overnight)
• Warehouse environment that can be dusty and noisy.
• Passing forklifts emit gas fumes.
• Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes.

Minimum Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum Years of Work Experience:
• 1 to 2 years of distribution experience an asset.

Minimum Leadership Experience:
• N/A

Certifications:
• Transportation of dangerous goods
• Full driver's license

Other Requirements/Assets:
• Knowledge of operating forklifts is an asset.
