Position Overview: 

The Senior Scrum Master is a strategic role accountable for the successful, on-time delivery of complex technology solutions across multiple teams within a scaled Agile program. 

This role requires a dedicated servant leader who integrates advanced Agile facilitation, including leading Scrum of Scrums, with robust program management principles. The position includes all standard Scrum Master responsibilities along with the necessary skills for long-term planning and financial management. 

You will act as the primary strategic liaison, building strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders to ensure clear alignment and promote a continuous improvement culture. This position is central to the program's success, requiring clear, transparent reporting on team progress, velocity, and program financials to drive decision-making. Success demands strong mentorship skills and a focus on removing large-scale obstacles to ensure maximum delivery value.  

Key Responsibilities:  

Lead scrum ceremonies  

  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews/Demos, Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinements) ensuring they are effective and adhere to the timebox.  

  • Proactively identify and remove impediments to help teams achieve sprint goals, coordinating with stakeholders and other teams as needed.  

  • Lead and facilitate Scrum of Scrums.  

  • Develop a solid understanding of the product and underlying technologies to support informed decision-making and effective delivery. 

Project management and delivery 

  • Develop project plans, set milestones, and manage deadlines.  

  • Monitor progress, assess risks, implement mitigation strategies, and adjust schedules as needed.  

  • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business objectives and adherence to quality standards.  

  • Apply DMO best practices and maintain required artifacts throughout the delivery lifecycle. 

  • Define program strategy, objectives, and success metrics in partnership with Technology leadership and key stakeholders.  

  • Engage with stakeholders on regular basis to ensure alignment and provide clear, timely updates on program status. 

Stakeholder management 

  • Strategically manage, align, and coordinate a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple business and technology to resolve complex, program-wide dependencies and drive clear communication channels across large-scale initiatives.  

  • Foster and support multiple business and technology teams by identifying and removing obstacles, resolving large complex impediments and dependencies.   

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the teams and help the teams implement changes.  

  • Observe and understand factors that impact team performance and velocity with the goal of continuously improving and applying learnings to future sprints. 

  • Collaborate with Business Product Owners and the Tech delivery teams to ensure each sprint delivers the defined sprint scope.  

  • Assist in managing the product backlog, clarify backlog items, and facilitate effective communication between the Product Owner and the team 

Leadership 

  • Support and facilitate interaction within the team and with key members from Business and other Technology Teams such as Change Management, Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, DBAs, and Offshore Support Team Members. 

  • Participate in THD agile community meetups to contribute and learn about potential improvements to our agile best practices and delivery approach and ensures that the team follows Scrum practices and principles.  

  • Help the team to understand the theory, practices, rules, and values of the Scrum framework.  

  • Coach and mentor others on Agile principles and practices.  

  • Drive alignment across teams by partnering with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and stakeholders to enable seamless cross-functional collaboration. 

Product/Business Knowledge 

  • Report on key metrics such as progress, velocity, financials, risks, and issues to ensure stakeholders and the Agile DMO Group have clear visibility. 

  • Identify and present the most relevant metrics for Business and Tech stakeholders to support their decision-making processes.  

  • Manage the complexities of large-scale programs by maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the product.  

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvements by identifying opportunities for optimization and implementing scalable solutions across teams.  

  • Lead and support technical delivery by applying a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), engineering best practices such, and facilitating effective technical discussions between stakeholders.

  • Advanced project / program management expertise, including planning, execution, risk mitigation, and stakeholder alignment.  

  • Effective presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences. 

  • Technical knowledge of Data structure and pipelines 

  • Knowledge of generative AI landscape and modern enterprise architectures (e.g., RAG, Agentic workflows) an asset  

  • Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills  

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:  

  • Reports Sr. Manager, Technology  

 

Travel Requirements:  

  • Travel to SSC Toronto on a regular basis.  

 

Minimum Education:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, project management or equivalent work experience.  

Minimum Years of Work Experience:  

  • 5+ Years of experience as a Certified Scrum Master or internal Home Depot Technology experience. 

 

Minimum Leadership Experience: 

  • 2-3 years previous leadership experience  

 

Certifications: 

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification required.  

Other Requirements/Assets:  

Advanced Certified Scrum Master (ACSM) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) preferred. 

Proven experience leading multiple Scrum teams and driving Agile transformations. 

Knowledgeable in JIRA, Confluence, other scrum tool and techniques 

Previous experience in retail industry
