About The Role
 

We are looking for a highly analytical, detail‑oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and can work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.

Reporting to the Sr. Tax Manager, the new Indirect Tax Analyst role will support the end‑to‑end indirect tax function, focusing on timely compliance, effective audit management, process improvement, and operational support for indirect tax systems and data. 

Key Responsibilities
 

Indirect Tax Compliance, Process & Risk Management

  • Manage the Indirect tax calendar to ensure timely filings, and co-ordinate any necessary GST, HST QST and PST remittances.

  • Reconciliation of GST/HST/QST/PST statements and notices to accounting records, independently resolve discrepancies with the business and tax authorities.

  • Review current processes and procedures, identify process inefficiencies and suggest opportunities for workflow improvements.

Audit Support

  • Coordinate and prepare responses to indirect tax audit queries, including information gathering, data extraction, and documentation support for GST/HST, PST/QST reviews

  • Assist with reviewing audit assessments, understanding underlying issues, and helping drive corrective actions.

  • Maintain organized audit files and contribute to continuous audit‑readiness improvements.

Tax Technology & Data Analysis

  • Work with the business and IT to ensure accurate tax application and execute other tax related system updates and process improvements.

  • Support digital transformation initiatives, including testing tax‑sensitive system changes and validating expected outcomes.

  • Build and maintain working datasets to support compliance, audit, and internal reporting.

Special Projects

  • Independently research, analyze and document indirect tax issues or legislative changes.

  • Support execution of tax projects and initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Accounting designation (CPA) complete or actively working towards attaining, is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, math, data science or related field.

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years in tax, accounting or data analytics,

  • Experience with indirect tax compliance or audit support is an asset.

  • Proficiency in ERP system (e.g. SAP), and familiarity with tax software platforms (e.g. SOVOS, Vertex)

  • Retail industry experience a plus.

  • Skills And Attributes for Success

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.

  • Technical abilities like GBQ, SQL and programing languages like Python along with data visualization and statistical knowledge.

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to solve complex problems using both accounting principles and mathematical techniques.

  • Proven ability to manage time efficiently and stay organized in a dynamic work environment.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt within a tax technology landscape.

  • Capacity to excel in a fast-paced professional services setting, demonstrating resilience and agility.

  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a high level of motivation and commitment to achieving results.
