Mobile Service Technician - Full Time Permanent

  • Multi-Site: HUNTSVILLE & NORTH BAY

Role Focus: You will act as a subject matter expert for the maintenance, repair, and operational integrity of compact construction equipment, ensuring high-quality fleet readiness and technical reliability.

Technical Expectations: The role requires hands-on mechanical aptitude in diagnosing and repairing engine, hydraulic, and electrical systems. You must be able to interpret complex technical manuals to perform accurate repairs and systematically troubleshoot issues by gathering and analyzing data.

Customer & Operational Support: Beyond technical repairs, you will serve as a key point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and complaints with a focus on exceeding customer expectations. You will also oversee the safe transport of equipment, including proper load securement and tie-down procedures.

Position Overview:

The Mobile Service Technician (MST) serves as the subject matter experts in large equipment (LE) operation and minor repairs, the Large Equipment Field Technicians (LRTs & MSTs) are responsible for ensuring LE operational rental readiness, providing LE technical expertise to customers and TRC associates, and performing general maintenance and minor repairs of assigned rental fleet. Field technicians must plan and coordinate their day by balancing the prioritization of rental business objectives, TRC location’s LE maintenance and repair needs, and customer’s service demands, while executing on the processes, behaviors, and expectations for meeting rental standards and customer’s needs. The MST must uphold The Home Depot’s core values and project a positive image. While maintaining a high level of professionalism, following The Home Depot’s safety policies and procedures are critical to performing their role as Mobile Service Technician. Each associate has the responsibility of providing a safe working environment by following all safety policies & standards.


Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance and Repairs

  • Inspect equipment for rental readiness and safe operation. Maintain Tool Rental Centre (TRC) Large Equipment (LE) parking lot standards and ensure there are 3 points of security on all towable equipment.
  • Complete preventative maintenance/inspections and minor repairs according to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications for LE fleet in assigned stores and customer job sites.
  • Perform select repairs on equipment and order parts as needed. Ensure work orders are completed in D365 with notes, including parts and repair information. Ensure fleet inventory accuracy and GPS system is operational.


Daily responsibilities and expectations

  • MSTs are responsible for fostering a culture of customer service & support and should GET involved with store TRC associates to provide the solutions our rental customers need to successfully complete their projects.
  • Maintains accurate parts inventory in vehicle and/or shop location.
  • Assist with equipment deliveries and pick-ups as required.
  • Deploys new equipment to store locations, including performing pre-delivery inspections (PDI), delivering to the store, and training store associates on LE rental process.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbal and written, partnering with store TRC associates, teammates, and customers.
  • Assist with turn guides and check in/out process for store TRC associates. Provide support throughout the rental period for customers and rental associates.
  • Respond to customer service calls by responding to emails with relevant status updates, coordinating with customer on facilitating repair, and arriving on-site within 24 hours.


Documentation

  • Maintain vehicle compliance in accordance with company, provincial regulations, and Ministry of Transportation guidelines and maintain & certify accurate Electronic Logging Device (ELD - Samsara), Hours of Service (HOS) driver logs/vehicle inspections and vehicle documentation.
  • Review open work orders and follow-up with parts department to request status updates on parts requests that have been pending for over five days.
  • Utilize Equipment Report, Rental Service Needed Tickets, and upcoming calls (PMs, store/lift Inspections, safety campaigns/bulletins) to coordinate daily action plan and service strategy with Lead Rental Technician (LRT) as needed.


Safety compliance

  • Work in accordance with all safety protocols by following all Home Depot policies, such as: Home Depots Standards of Performance, safe driving practices, using proper lifting techniques, and utilizing all necessary and prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow all safety and Hazmat procedures.
  • Maintain Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) certifications and store inspection compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • This position reports to the Regional Rental Manager.


Travel Requirements:

  • May require overnight travel less than 15% of the time.


Physical Requirements:

  • May include physical demands such as lifting (up to 50 lbs.) from the waist, lifting from the shoulder, prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, crawling underneath equipment, climbing on top of equipment, reaching, and stretching.
  • Environment will require repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements, including skilled work with fingers. Occasionally, employee will be required to work at heights and climb onto equipment.
  • Parking lot work: working outdoors in extreme hot and cold temperatures; working around dirt, grease, fumes, oils, and chemicals; prolonged exposure to loud noises from engines, compressors, power tools, and equipment.


Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • 2 years of relevant work experience


Other Requirements/Assets:

  • Must be 18 year or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Resides within 25 kms of target city or willing to commute to base location.
  • Regular scheduled shifts may include weekends and may be asked to work outside of regularly scheduled shifts.
  • Working knowledge of handheld technology (ex. smartphone, laptop, tablet, applications, etc.).
  • Must provide own standard tools used in the trade/craft.
