This is a 6-month contract position, but contract may end early due to business needs.

Position Purpose:

The DC Assistant Manager is responsible for providing effective front-line leadership and directing workflows and priorities to the DC operations managers.

The Laval BDC (Bulk Distribution Centre) is a store facing DC that supports all stores in Quebec, Ottawa, and Atlantic Canada with lumber, plywood, and other building material commodities. It is a fast-paced environment requiring a high degree of planning, customer service, creativity, and constant safety vigilance.

The DC Assistant Manager will partner with the DC Manager to cascade the BDC vision, mission, and operational strategies to the DC Operation Manager(s) to ensure the achievement of all key performance objectives.

The DC Assistant Manager will have financial, administrative, and P&L responsibilities including work order creation and management, invoice administration, and ownership of variable expense line items.

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage and interact with all Distribution Centre (DC) associates to ensure efficient day to day operations    

  • Ensure associates are provided with daily guidelines on workload and changing priorities    

  • Follow SOP concerning proper course of action on, performance reviews, performance concerns, Associate Relations issues, etc.    

  • Monitor and reinforce safety and shrink prevention to all associates    

  • Ensure Associates have the tools (i.e., information, working equipment, etc.) necessary to do their jobs    

  • Formally review performance of Operation Manager(s) four times a year and informally review on an ongoing basis    

  • Train and develop Operation Manager(s), and Associates to maximize performance    

  • Provide constant feedback to DC associates through the formal review process as well as direct daily communication    

  • Respond to and resolve customer issues in a timely manner    

  • Resolve concerns that affect the DC’s service, efficiency, safety, and productivity    

  • Read and interpret reports (i.e., P & L, etc.) in order to determine and monitor problem areas    

  • Plan and execute DC Inventory Counts as necessary & ensure proper stock rotation through a first in first out system    

  • Available to travel occasionally    

  • Additional duties as assigned by Distribution Centre Management    

  • Safety expectations for this role are outlined under The Home Depot Canada Environmental Health & Safety Management system element under "Supervisor"

  • Lift requirement up to 50-70 pounds

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Must fulfill minimum time-in-position (1 year) and meet performance management)         

  • Minimum 1 year management experience within a distribution centre environment with strong customer service focus ensuring excellent service to all stores    

  • Demonstrates awareness of Home Depot safety policies and procedures; includes ability to identify and report safety hazards, and the ability to encourage others to work safely    

  • Knowledge of DC operations, store products and legislative requirements of OHSA an asset    

  • Strong analytical, statistical analysis, problem solving skills and team building skills    

  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage large workload, competing demands, and a fast-paced environment    

  • Ability to set goals and standards, manage associates and resources for accomplishment; develop Associates and provide feedback; establish and reinforce a quality orientation and follow-up to ensure completion    

  • Computer experience a definite asset 

  • Valid MHE certification

  • Good communication skills, ability to interact with internal stakeholders, as well as outside partners such as final mile carriers

  • - Certified to operate SDCB (sit down counterbalance) and able to support warehouse operations during peak times.

Le directeur adjoint, Centre de distribution de marchandises en gros (CDMG), assure une gestion de première ligne efficace et oriente les flux de travail et les priorités pour les directeurs, Exploitation, des centres de distribution.

Le CDMG de Laval est un centre de distribution soutenant l’ensemble des magasins du Québec, de la région d’Ottawa et des provinces de l’Atlantique en répondant à leurs besoins en matière de bois d’œuvre, de contreplaqué et autres matériaux de construction de consommation courante. Il s’agit d’un milieu où les activités se déroulent à un rythme rapide. Le travail nécessite un degré élevé de planification et de créativité ainsi que d’excellentes aptitudes pour le service à la clientèle et une vigilance constante en matière de sécurité.

Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, le titulaire du poste est appelé à collaborer avec le directeur, Centre de distribution, pour transmettre la vision, la mission et les stratégies d’exploitation du CDMG aux directeurs, Exploitation, Centre de distribution, et assurer la réalisation des objectifs clés en matière de rendement.

Ses responsabilités sont liées aux finances, à l’administration et aux pertes et profits, notamment en ce qui a trait à la création et à la gestion des bons de travail ainsi qu’à la gestion des factures et de diverses notes de frais.

Responsabilités

  • Diriger tous les associés du centre de distribution et interagir avec eux afin d’assurer l’efficacité des activités quotidiennes.

  • Veiller à ce que les associés reçoivent quotidiennement des instructions concernant la charge de travail et les changements de priorités.

  • Suivre les méthodes d’exploitation normalisées concernant les mesures à prendre, les évaluations de rendement, les problèmes de rendement, les problèmes liés aux relations avec les associés, etc.

  • Superviser tous les associés et leur rappeler les pratiques liées à la sécurité et à la prévention des pertes.

  • Veiller à ce que les associés possèdent les outils nécessaires pour effectuer leur travail (renseignements, équipement de travail, etc.).

  • Évaluer de façon officielle le rendement des directeurs, Exploitation, quatre fois par année et les évaluer de façon informelle de manière continue.

  • Former les directeurs et les associés, Exploitation, afin de maximiser leur rendement.

  • Assurer un suivi continu auprès de tous les associés du centre de distribution en utilisant le processus officiel d’évaluation et en communiquant directement avec eux chaque jour.

  • Résoudre les problèmes se rapportant aux clients dans un délai raisonnable.

  • Résoudre les problèmes qui ont une incidence sur le service, l’efficacité, la sécurité et la productivité du centre de distribution.

  • Lire et interpréter les rapports (p. ex., l’état des profits et pertes) afin de repérer et de surveiller les éléments problématiques.

  • Planifier et effectuer les dénombrements des stocks du centre de distribution, au besoin, et s’assurer que la rotation des stocks est adéquate grâce à la méthode «premier arrivé, premier vendu».

  • Être disposé à effectuer occasionnellement des déplacements.

  • Exécuter les tâches connexes attribuées par l’équipe de direction du centre de distribution.

  • Les attentes en matière de sécurité relatives à ce poste figurent dans la section «Superviseur» du système de gestion de l’environnement, de la santé et de la sécurité de Home Depot Canada.

  • Être capable de soulever des charges de 50 à 70 livres.

Expérience et connaissances requises

  • Exigences minimales relatives à l’ancienneté (un an) et au code de rendement.

  • Au moins un an d’expérience en gestion dans un centre de distribution avec une forte attention au service à la clientèle afin d’offrir un excellent service à tous les magasins.

  • Connaissance des politiques et des consignes de sécurité de Home Depot, aptitude à repérer et à signaler les risques pour la sécurité et capacité à motiver les autres à travailler de manière sécuritaire.

  • Connaissance de l’exploitation d’un centre de distribution, des produits en magasin et des exigences prévues par la loi relativement à la santé et à la sécurité au travail, un atout.

  • Solides compétences en matière d’analyse, d’analyse statistique, de résolution de problèmes et de consolidation d’équipe.

  • Excellentes capacités d’organisation et aptitude à gérer une charge de travail importante, des demandes concurrentes et un environnement en évolution rapide.

  • Capacité à fixer des normes et des objectifs, et à diriger des associés et des personnes-ressources en vue d’accomplir un travail. Capacité à assurer le perfectionnement des associés et à leur fournir de la rétroaction. Mise en place et renforcement d’un parcours d’intégration et d’une méthode de suivi de la qualité pour assurer la réussite.

  • Connaissances en informatique, un atout.

  • Permis valide pour les appareils de manutention du matériel.

  • Bonnes aptitudes pour la communication, et capacité à interagir avec des intervenants internes ainsi qu’avec des partenaires externes, comme les transporteurs qui assurent la fin du parcours de livraison.

  • Permis de chariot élévateur à conducteur assis et à contrepoids. Capacité à soutenir les activités dans l’entrepôt pendant les périodes de pointe.
